JM Family Enterprises Named One of the 2020 Best Workplaces for Women by Great Place to Work® and Fortune

Great Place to Work and Fortune have named JM Family Enterprises as one of the Best Workplaces for Women for the fifth consecutive year. The company ranked at No. 56 on the 2020 list.

The Best Workplaces for Women stand out for excelling in one of the nation’s most competitive marketplaces. JM Family’s corporate culture draws strength from its associates and their differences in experience, thought and background. The company’s commitment to diversity, equality and overall inclusion is evidenced by its various associate-led Affinity Groups, such as Women in Leadership, which was formed to develop future female leaders through mentoring, networking and learning opportunities.

“The success of Women in Leadership affirms the desire for networking between associates from all levels and all business units,” said Janet Shope, Women in Leadership Committee Lead and director of Customer Experience and Warranty Administration for JM Family subsidiary Southeast Toyota Distributors.

The group, which has 258 members representing all levels in the organization, hosts events that are open to all associates. Throughout the pandemic and the company’s move to a more virtual work environment, this group has remained active, expanding its reach without the constraints of travel and meeting space, to include members from the company’s other business locations. In fact, their July meeting, Turning Action into Results, shattered previous attendance records. Women in Leadership also helped its members cope with the added stress of the pandemic with a member-led guided meditation sessions and access to the company-sponsored Working Parents group for support and information.

“Always looking to provide timely and varied topics of for discussion, we have partnered with the company’s Learning and Organizational Development team to expose future leaders to important themes such as emotional intelligence and executive presence to further strengthen our associates’ growth. In addition, with the company’s support, we have spun off a Toastmasters group, engaged in Corporate Community Impact projects and are launching a mentoring pilot, providing additional outlets for belonging and development in an already strong, inclusive culture,” said Shope.

The ranking considered feedback representing over 4.9 million employees working at Great Place to Work-Certified organizations. Great Place to Work, a global people analytics and consulting firm, evaluated more than 60 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included the extent to which employees trust leaders, the respect with which people are treated, the fairness of workplace decisions, and how much camaraderie there is among the team. Rankings are based on employees’ feedback and reward companies who best include all employees, no matter who they are or what they do for the organization.
