Teambuilding exercise books more than two dozen new opportunities for local families to read together

In honor of International Literacy Day on September 8, JM Family Enterprises announced that its associates had assembled, donated or filled more than two dozen community bookcases to be placed in public parks and gathering areas throughout its footprint.

Together with The Little Free Library, a nonprofit organization that promotes neighborhood book exchanges, usually in the form of a public bookcase, the company is celebrating the power of community and literacy for all through this crafty teambuilding exercise. Associates were also encouraged to purchase new or contribute gently used books for donation to the libraries.

“At JM Family, we believe that small acts of kindness can help build stronger communities. The goal of this ongoing initiative was to assemble, decorate and fill Little Free Libraries throughout the locations where our associates live and work to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries,” said Lisa Davis, director of Corporate Community Impact at JM Family.

So far, eye-catching bookcases have been donated to communities in Aberdeen, South Dakota; Commerce, Georgia; and Jacksonville and Deerfield Beach, Florida. Additional bookcase kits have been distributed to associates throughout the enterprise for continued assembly and donation.

This is just one chapter in JM Family’s storied history of support and volunteerism. The company contributes time and talent to impact diverse causes which are focused on three areas of giving – empowering families, promoting education and embracing the environment.
