JM Family Associates Take On Hunger in South Florida
According to
USDA ERS, more than 48 million Americans, including 15.3 million children, were living in food insecure households during 2014. As part of its annual Spring into Giving campaign, JM Family Enterprises encouraged its more than 4,100 associates to donate time and money through creative fundraising initiatives that benefit food banks in various local markets.
Each year, associates from several of JM Family’s business locations partake in a variety of engaging activities during this three-week long, companywide effort to raise funds and increase awareness about food insecurity. This year, the company raised $98,300 to benefit six food bank partners, topping last year’s total by more than 20 percent.
Here in South Florida, JM Family’s Deerfield Beach headquarters donated $64,613 to support Feeding South Florida’s (FSF) ongoing mission to provide families with nutritious meals. Local associates also volunteered their time to assist in sorting 38,000 pounds of food, which equals more than 31,000 meals provided to food insecure individuals from throughout South Florida. FSF annually rescues and distributes more than 40 million pounds of food to hungry individuals from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
Local associates also had the opportunity to contribute money by participating in daily word scrambles and by challenging themselves to a ‘Cash Camry’ trivia game during lunch, all in good fun for a great cause.
