Habitat for Humanity of Broward Announces 2020 Co-Chairs for Inaugural CEO Build

Habitat for Humanity of Broward will be hosting its inaugural CEO Build on Saturday, February 22, 2020 with co-chairs Brent Burns, President and CEO of JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and Cheryl Miller, CEO and President of AutoNation.

The event will take place at A Rick Case Habitat Community in Pompano Beach and will bring local CEOs together to act on the important issue of affordable housing for Broward County’s workforce.

"We are proud to help spearhead the upcoming CEO Build with Habitat, allowing leaders from major corporations in South Florida to join forces in making a difference in the lives of families struggling to pay for housing, and willing to work hard to achieve the dream of an affordable home," said Burns.
As CEOs of leading national companies located in South Florida, Burns and Miller extend the unique opportunity to fellow CEOs to roll up their sleeves and work side-by-side to elevate roof trusses on new homes in the Habitat community.

“South Florida is fortunate to enjoy some of the lowest unemployment statistics in the nation. The cost of housing, however, continues to rise, making it very challenging for Broward’s workforce,” said Miller. “The CEOs who are partnering with us are leading the charge for change. They are uniting to send a powerful message of support for affordable housing.”

Joining AutoNation and JM Family CEOs are the leaders of Amerant Bank, Bank of America, BBi (Burdette Beckmann, Inc.), BBX Capital, Broward Health, Celebrity Cruises, City Furniture, Rick Case Automotive Group, Gunster, Hudson Capital Group, Memorial Healthcare Systems, Miami Dolphins, Miller Construction, The Las Olas Company, Rogers Morris & Ziegler, Seawood Builders, South Florida Business Journal, Stiles Corporation, South Ocean Capital, WSVN Channel 7, Berger Singerman, BrandStar, Broward College, Castle Group, Community Foundation of Broward, Enterprise Holdings, Florida Blue, HEICO, Pirtle Construction, SIXT rent a car, Advanced Roofing, North Broward Hospital, JPR Insurance Services and ZOM Living.

“Housing costs in our community have far outgrown incomes, and lack of affordable housing is a significant crisis. It is for this reason that JM Family began our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Broward in 2002 and have proudly helped to build and dedicate 35 homes since that time,” said Burns.

Miller agrees, “With South Florida home to AutoNation’s corporate headquarters, we are committed to making a difference. I am very proud to be a part of such an important initiative.”

“A Rick Case Habitat Community,” where CEOs will build, is the largest single-family affordable homeownership community ever undertaken by a Broward nonprofit. Its 77 affordable homes consist of 42 one-story and 35 two-story units. The development has attracted national attention.

Habitat offers families in need a way to earn a zero-interest, affordable mortgage through their investment of sweat equity, coursework and modest down payments.
Events such as the CEO Build help Habitat Broward to make the dream of a decent home come true for families in need. The event will include an exclusive networking opportunity, continental breakfast, lunch, and awards presentation.

In 2019, Habitat Broward earned its place among the top 40 largest Habitat home producers in the nation. The recognition comes following three years of rapid growth in which the nonprofit tripled the number of homes it builds each year. In addition, Stacker publication rated Habitat Broward among 50 top-rated charities and Charity Navigator awarded it four out of four stars.
