JM Family Enterprises recently welcomed 53 interns from universities across the country to its College Internship Program, an eight-week program designed to expose the company to the next generation of professionals and give college students an opportunity to experience JM Family’s unique culture and reputation as an employer of choice.
The program gives students the chance to have meaningful work experiences that tie to their fields of study, such as accounting, human resources, information technology, marketing and communications.
Founded in 2014, the College Internship Program strives to provide interns with tools, resources and hands-on experiences they may not learn in the classroom. From resume writing and business presentation skills workshops to networking events, this program’s continued success has proven it to be a win-win situation. In hopes of turning interns into associates, this program provides future professionals with the skills to be career ready.
“This internship is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and I have been lucky enough to participate twice,” said Stefano Rivera, marketing intern with JM&A Group, one of JM Family’s subsidiaries. “Interning in a marketing department at JM Family introduced me to a new area of interest, prompting me to take on a minor in marketing. Through my involvement in JM Family’s program, I have expanded horizons and, at the same time, my job opportunities.”
This year JM Family implemented a pilot program within the College Internship Program to ensure continued success. Twelve interns within the Information Technology department were selected to participate in this program, which allows them to continuously give and measure feedback about their experience. These interns have bi-weekly meetings with company-assigned mentors to discuss their progress and how they can make the most out of their internship.
“The pilot is mutually beneficial because it allows the program to evolve and continue to get better while giving us an opportunity to expand on our internship experience,” said Jeremy Einhorn, JM Family’s PMO Intern. “Having a mentor has provided me with that extra encouragement and support that has helped me throughout my internship, and will remain a resource for me when I look for a job.”
Planning for the internship program begins in November. Aside from everyday work, numerous events are planned for the participants, such as a corporate giving event stuffing backpacks for Kids in Distress to highlight the importance of corporate social responsibility, a networking event on the company’s boat -- The Gallant Lady, a meet and greet with Colin Brown, JM Family chairman and CEO, and a final presentation at the conclusion.
The hiring process runs from February through April. Any student who has completed one semester or more at an accredited college or university is eligible and encouraged to apply.
